EGYPT 1800

Ancient Egypt leaped into the modern age at the beginning of the nineteenth century. The bold vision and daring projects of the Muhammad Ali dynasty made the capital of Cairo one of the most exciting cities of the era, and attracted Jews from all over the Middle East, North Africa and Europe. But their eternal status as official guests rather than citizens made it hard for them to feel at home.
